NAST Standards Review
Last Update: February 1, 2016
NAST conducts reviews of its standards for institutional membership in two formats: comprehensive reviews and specific reviews.
Comprehensive reviews consider the standards as a whole or a particular set of standards (e.g. graduate, undergraduate, non-degree-granting, operational). Specific reviews consider particular portions or elements of the standards, or new standards.
Status reports regarding comprehensive and specific standards review efforts are provided below, along with links to any texts available for comment.
Until any proposed changes have been approved by an affirmative vote of institutional
representatives to NAST, the official standards in effect are those published in the
latest edition of the NAST Handbook and any current Handbook Addenda.
Unless specifically stated otherwise, this portion of the NAST Web site contains only
texts associated with standards reviews or proposals for changes. These texts are
not to be used in the NAST accreditation process.
All draft proposals will be posted here as they are approved for public comment. Indications will be provided for each proposal regarding the type of review, the dates of comment periods, and whether the proposal is scheduled for hearings or for a final vote by the NAST membership.
Representatives of member institutions, students, theatre professionals, accreditors, interested parties, and the general public are cordially invited to read and comment on standards drafts. Those wishing to comment are urged to read the material and use the Response Form provided under Reviewing and Commenting on NAST Standards. If you have comments now, please share them during the present comment period.
Although NAST will not be able to acknowledge every comment individually, the Association is grateful to those making specific suggestions. You need not comment if you think a text is satisfactory.

The first comment period for the comprehensive standards reviews extended from August 14 through October 1, 2015. There are no comprehensive standards reviews open for comment at this time.
COMPREHENSIVE STANDARDS REVIEWS
Following NASTs review of input received during the first comment period, it is projected that a second comment period will be posted for further review and comment.
