Richard Klautsch

Richard Klautsch became a Professor of Theatre at Boise State University in 1992 and began serving in 1998 as the Chair of the Department of Theatre Arts, the position he held for the next twenty years. In 2017, he started his current position as Chair of the Department of Theatre, Film, and Creative Writing. He began his teaching career at the University of Michigan while still a doctoral candidate at Wayne State University in Detroit.

During his time at Boise State, Professor Klautsch performed (as a member of AEA) for twenty-two seasons at the Idaho Shakespeare Festival, acted and directed for eight seasons at Boise Contemporary Theater, and performed at the Great Lakes Theatre Festival in Cleveland for three seasons and at the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival. In the fall of 2006, he was a guest artist and visiting professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He has appeared in two television series produced by the Boise State Film program’s Narrative Television Initiative and in 2019 had a principal role in the independent film Making Sense.

Professor Klautsch was named Administrator of the Year by the Boise State University Association of Office Professionals in 2011 and by the Idaho Association of Educational Office Professionals in 2012.

Professor Klautsch serves as a Visiting Evaluator and previously served NAST as a member of the Commission on Accreditation from 2014 – 2020.

Professor Klautsch received his Master of Fine Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from Wayne State University.
