Steve Ray is the Head of the Department of Performing Arts at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC). He teaches Theatre History, Musical Theatre, Directing, and Introduction to Theatre, and serves as the Artistic Director of the UTC Theatre Company.
Professor Ray is a director, scenic designer, and actor. He has worked with such theatres as the Chattanooga Theatre Centre, the Oklahoma Shakespearean Festival, the Conasauga Shakespeare Coalition, the Birmingham Children’s Theatre, and Theatre Tuscaloosa. He currently serves on the board of the Conasauga Shakespeare Coalition. He completed the Association for Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE) Leadership Institute and has been a presenter at The Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC). At UTC, Professor Ray has served as the Faculty Senate President.
Professor Ray has served NAST as Chair of the Committee on Nominations and as an Annual Meeting presenter.
Professor Ray holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Directing from the University of Alabama.
