Brian Jones

Brian Jones is Chair of the Department of Theater and Dance at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), where he also serves as the institution’s resident scenic and lighting designer. Prior to his current appointment, he taught design and technical production at Providence College, Weber State University, and Wabash College.

Professor Jones has held leadership roles in Region 2 of the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival as Vice-Chair, and as a three-time festival host. He has also served on the U.S. Institute for Theater Technology Education Commission. At IUP he has been a director of the Reflective Practice Project of the Center for Teaching Excellence, and held university-wide posts on the Awards, Sabbatical and Research Committees. For ten years, Professor Jones has been the Founding Producing and Executive Director of IUP’s Youth Theater company, Footlight Players.

Professionally, Professor Jones has designed scenery and lighting for over 250 productions across the country. He has designed for EgoPo Classic Theater (Philadelphia, PA), The Metropolitan Playhouse (NYC), The Electric Theatre Company (Scranton, PA), Alias Stage and Newgate Theatre (RI), Jekyll Island Summer Musical Theatre (GA), Utah Musical Theatre, the Salt Lake Acting Company and Theatreworks West (UT). He has received four awards for meritorious achievement in set design from the Kennedy Center/American College Theater Festival. In addition to scenery and lighting, he has a strong interest in masks and puppetry. Professor Jones was an artist-in-residence with Mum Puppettheatre in Philadelphia, PA, where he designed The Puppetmaster of Lodz.

Professor Jones has served NAST as Chair of the Committee on Ethics and as a member of the Committee on Nominations. He was first elected to the Commission on Accreditation in 2019.

He received his Master of Fine Arts degree in Scenic Design and Production from the University of Florida, and his Bachelor of Arts degree from Wabash College.
