Daniel Gordon

Daniel Gordon is Chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance and Professor of Theatre at Winthrop University. Before his tenure began at Winthrop in 2013, he previously served as Department Chair of Theatre at Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach, Florida. His teaching areas include Lighting Design for Theatre and Dance, Stage Management, Shakespeare, and Outdoor Drama. He is active with the Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC) and currently serves on the finance committee.

Professor Gordon’s professional achievements include designing lighting for LORT theatres, including Palm Beach Dramaworks and The Pacific Theatre Ensemble, where he earned a Dramalogue award for “Best Production” for The Beggar’s Opera. He has worked with the Palm Beach Shakespeare Festival and its annual Shakespeare by the Sea, which has provided free Shakespeare in the park for the last twenty-nine years. Through his involvement, students have been provided the opportunity for their first professional experience on and off stage. Professor Gordon has been able to indulge his love for dance by designing lighting for the Royal New Zealand Ballet, Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami, The International Ballet Festival of Miami, and The Harid Conservatory of Dance.

Professor Gordon received his Master of Fine Arts degree in Theatrical Design from the University of Southern California, and his Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre from the University of South Florida.
