David C. Bell

David C. Bell currently serves as Associate Dean of The Hartt School at the University of Hartford, following 40 years of work in the performing arts. In his 27 years at the University, he has overseen the administrative, operational, and production activities of The Hartt School as Managing Director. He originally joined the University as the Director of Technical Theater and subsequently assumed responsibility for the Lincoln Theater and the University of Hartford Box Office.

Associate Dean Bell began his career working in regional theaters across the United States in various roles: carpenter, stagehand, master electrician, stage manager and lighting designer. In New York City, he has worked at The Tisch School of the Arts at New York University and at the Juilliard School. He is a past member of the International Association of Assembly Managers, Inc. (IAAM), the United States Institute of Theatre Technology, Inc. (USITT), and the League of American Theatres and Producers.

Associate Dean Bell holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Technical Design and Production from Yale University, and a bachelor’s degree in Set and Lighting Design from the University of Idaho.
