Randal Blades is Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Drama at Jacksonville State University (JSU) in Jacksonville, Alabama. He joined the faculty at JSU in 2006 as a costume technician and designer, and became department head in 2012. Prior to his appointment at JSU, he served as assistant in theatre and costume shop manager at the University of Central Florida.
Professor Blades’ professional credits include costume designs for Stage Door Players (Atlanta, Georgia), 3rd Space Theater Collective, ALAetc., and Maples Repertory Theatre in Macon, Missouri, and various institutions. He also worked professionally for several years as a freelance costumer in Atlanta. As a draper/tailor, Professor Blades has worked for the Illinois, Georgia, and Orlando Shakespeare Festivals, as well as the Atlanta Opera, where he was costume shop manager and cutter/draper for two seasons.
Professor Blades was first elected to the Commission on Accreditation in 2019.
Professor Blades holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Costume Design from Pennsylvania State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Drama from Jacksonville State University.
